I am Caleb Bhyun

An Ethical Hacker

ABOUT ME

Sung Won Caleb Bhyun

Born in South Korea, I moved to Canada with my family during middle school. Growing up, I was always interested in the world of computers. In my teenage years, despite knowing nothing about programming, I ran a game server and a website, getting spoon-fed by people on online forums while figuring things out along the way.

After high school, I started university in General Science, unsure of which path to take. That changed when I took a Computer Science course as an elective. It felt like the right fit, and I decided to switch my degree program.

Before finishing my degree, I returned to Korea for mandatory military service and joined the Republic of Korea Navy. I was fortunate to be selected for the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), where I gained hands-on experience monitoring systems and networks, responding to incidents, and managing infrastructure. That is where my interest in cyber security really began.

After completing my service and earning my degree, I started my career as a software developer, since breaking into cyber security as an international student felt out of reach at the time. Eventually, I got an opportunity to work as a security analyst, where I helped defend organizations against cyberattacks.

Today, I work on the offensive side as an ethical hacker, finding vulnerabilities and misconfigurations, demonstrating their impact, and providing solutions for remediation.

I have also become a Canadian citizen and currently serve in the Canadian Army on the side as a reservist, as a way to give back.

Outside of work, I am always looking for new experiences. I love travelling, meeting new people, exploring different cultures, and trying new foods!
